Report: Consistory Agenda Changed Because of FSSPX Consecrations

The proximity of the consistory (Friday and Saturday) to the FSSPX consecrations (Wednesday) has allegedly prompted Leo XIV to remove the liturgy from the consistory's agenda. This information was published by Nico Spuntoni on IlGiornale.it, who cited an anonymous cardinal as his source. Although "synodality" was already discussed in January, it has returned to the agenda.
Spuntoni adds three more pieces of information.
- Notable absences at the consistory due to ill health include conservative Cardinals Joseph Zen (Hong Kong), Péter Erdő (Budapest), and Willem Eijk (Utrecht).
- There is unease among the professed members and religious sisters of the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X, who do not wish to risk incurring a possible excommunication.
- The consistory's agenda has not generally generated enthusiasm among cardinals. Some also dislike the Synod Secretariat's method of working in small groups.

When Did Films Get So Boring

Hello, All!
Haven’t been able to write many Substack essays, because I’ve been spending the time writing for work. While I can’t post the screenplays I’ve finished, I can reprint the SPIN Magazine pieces I’ve done as one of their contributing film editors.
Here is the first one I did for the Fall 2025 issue. (I highly recommend
subscribing to SPIN Mag for their quarterly print issues. It’s a relief to read a physical magazine, knowing your attention on any one page isn’t being tracked incessantly by some website or app.)
When Did Films Get So Boring?
We Want Our New Genre
Why is nothing new happening in film?
You’ve noticed. Sequel after sequel, unmemorable plots, films you don’t care about discussing the next day.
Yeah, it didn’t use to be like this.
Filmgoers in the 20th century had a bonanza of new genres or styles of film. Every decade birthed two or more. Film started in the 1910s with a big dose of Charlie Chaplin. Sound entered the picture in the ‘20s, and the films got …

Hero against Communism and Defender of Roman Mass in Medjugorje: On 23 June, the eve of the 44th anniversary of the first false apparitions, Cardinal Ernest Simoni, 97, climbed slowly Medjugorje's rocky “Apparition Hill”. He was accompanied by members of the Cenacolo Community. Cardinal Simoni endured decades of communist persecution in Albania. He recently celebrated the 70 anniversary of his ordination by attending the Mass in the Roman rite at the Gricigliano Seminary.

FSSPX Bishops' Coats of Arms: Lions, Wheat, a Swan, and a Lamb

Today, the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X has published the coats of arms and episcopal mottos of the four bishops to be ordained on Wednesday.
Fr Pascal Schreiber's Family Lions
Fr Pascal Schreiber has chosen the motto Virgo Fidelis ("Virgin Most Faithful"), one of the invocations from the Litany of Loreto. Episcopal mottos are usually drawn from the Bible or express the bishop's personal mission.
His coat of arms contains personal references. The two lions are taken from his family's coat of arms. Each holds a golden quill, a canting reference to the surname Schreiber ("scribe"). The colours black, red, and gold are a nod to his German homeland.
Fr Michael Goldade's Twelve Ears of Wheat
Fr Michael Goldade's motto, Adeamus cum fiducia ("Let us go with confidence"), comes from Hebrews 4:16.
The defining feature of his coat of arms is the twelve ears of wheat. Besides symbolizing the Eucharist, they recall North Dakota and Kansas, his places of origin and upbringing, also his …Okuningi

"Leo XIV Continues Francis' Program, Empowers Hardened Synodalists"

After the election of Leo XIV, Aldo Maria Valli wanted to believe in the new pope and in the possibility of a change of direction, he admitted on his blog on June 25. Valli was the longtime Vatican correspondent for Italy’s public broadcaster, RAI.
But: “The cold shower (or rather, a whole series of cold showers) quickly woke me from that dream in the form of statements fully in line with the Bergoglian disaster and a succession of ‘peace & love’ initiatives, marked by a shallow humanitarianism completely devoid of references to transcendence, sin, conversion, and the salvation of the soul.”
On the consistory on Friday and Saturday, he writes: “Under Leo XIV, the Church is not merely avoiding any reversal of course; it is enthusiastically reaffirming the synodal model, transforming it into a permanent method of ecclesial governance.”
Valli points to the names of the cardinals (Ryś, Fernández, Brislin, and Grech) chosen to lead the principal sessions. It is, he says, a gathering of …Okuningi

And the poisonous menu Prevost serves up in his rebellion against God—the worship of false gods and the paganism that violates the First Commandment, as well as disobedience and defiance of God’s NATURAL law and the rejection of the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit through the profanation of the body—by means of sodomy, adultery, and every kind of immorality and sexual perversion.

At 97, Cardinal Ernest Simoni Climbs Medjugorje’s Apparition Hill | Shalom World News
On the eve of the 45th anniversary of the first reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Medjugorje, Cardinal Ernest Simoni made a remarkable climb up the rocky Apparition Hill, offering a powerful witness to endurance, prayer, and devotion. Despite his advanced age, the Albanian cardinal climbed the hill to honor Our Lady at the site where, according to the testimony of six young people, the first apparitions were reported on June 24, 1981. The site, known as Podbrdo or Apparition Hill, has since become a major pilgrimage destination for millions of faithful pilgrims. Cardinal Simoni’s journey carries special meaning. Before becoming a cardinal, he suffered greatly under Albania’s communist regime, spending 18 years in prison and in forced labor because of his priesthood and faith. Now, decades later, the elderly cardinal climbed the same path followed by countless pilgrims, turning every step into …Okuningi

Spain's Bishops Appoint Adviser to Socialist Government to Lead Caritas

Worse than Germany: On June 24, the Spanish Bishops' Conference appointed economist Luis Ayala Cañón as the new president of Caritas Spain, the Church's largest charitable organization.
He previously served on the Spanish Government's Advisory Council for Health and Social Services, reports InfoVaticana.com. He was appointed by Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's administration in 2019.
Ayala has also collaborated with left-leaning organizations, including Fundación Alternativas, a think tank widely associated with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).
Spain's Socialist government under Sánchez enacted anti-Catholic policies, including legalizing euthanasia, expanding abortion, and advancing gender and homosex legislation.
In its announcement, the Spanish Bishops' Conference made no reference to Ayala's previous government role or political collaborations, highlighting only his academic credentials and expertise in economics and social policy.

Venezuela, on the same day of celebrating a false saint, a thing which the church allowed and perhaps encourage (religious differentism), suffered a gigantic earthquake. Thousands are missing and feared dead, THEY... KNEELED, PRAY AND SACRIFICED TO GOD FOR REGIME CHANGE, and months later worship a false saint brought from África.
EARTHQUAKES IN VENEZUELA, JAPAN, PHILIPPINES AND SOME OTHER PARTS OF INDONESIA (volcano eruptions), yet people still think we aren't at the beginning of the end times. Open your eyes and embrace God’s Mercy in His only beloved Son Jesus, the ONLY way to Almighty Father.
My heart breaks for Venezuela, but their idol worshiping has been epic for many years. Rosaries up!

Iran pushing to end Israel's genocide in Gaza during talks with US: Hamas

Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim held a call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on 23 June, the Palestinian resistance group announced in an official statement.
“Araghchi expressed his gratitude for the call and for Hamas’s supportive position, affirming that the Islamic Republic will continue supporting the Palestinian people and their just cause until the full realization of their legitimate national rights,” the statement said.
It added that Araghchi told the resistance movement that “Iranian leadership, represented by the negotiating delegation, continues to raise the issue of the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza, the occupation’s continuing violations, and what he describes as ongoing genocide.”
According to the Hamas statement, Araghchi affirmed that Iran was pushing for an end to genocide “in all international forums” as well as in “current negotiations.”
He also renewed the call for serious international action “to protect the Palestinian people and compel …

Hell: A sermon by St. Robert Bellarmine.
joboww on Oct 19, 2016 A sermon by St. Robert Bellarmine, read by Charles Coulombe. Like a spash of cold water on the face, this is a wake-up call describing our skewed perspective of reality. Despite the enormous stakes of either Heaven or eternal torment, we still choose to serve ourselves over God, for fickle pleasures which don't even truly make us happy. This talk covers the tremendous gravity of sin, the overwhelming happiness in Heaven versus the unthinkable suffering in Hell, the endless NOW of eternity and the despair and rage of the damned.

What Are Catholics Reading This Summer?

Catholic writers, leaders and prominent figures share their reading lists for the warmest months of 2026.
It seems like only yesterday that we published our
Lenten reading recommendations, but here we are unrolling our 2026 summer reading list, which is altogether a very different animal than the books we recommended for the Season of Penance.
Summer books shouldn’t necessarily be unchallenging. In fact, it’s a perfect time for books that require the uninterrupted lounging-around time that summer affords, whether at the beach or pool, or in a hammock in the back yard. It’s the perfect time to get truly lost in a book — so lost that upon putting it down you feel a bit dazed, the way you might feel stumbling out of a movie theater into the blazing sun.
Those potentially-out-of-body-experience reads ought to be chosen carefully. To that end, we’ve asked a few Catholic writers, leaders and prominent figures what they are reading this summer. Here’s what they told us:
Alberto Fernandez,…
