Run of Saint Andrew: Amalfi's Centuries-Old Tradition. The spectacular 'Run of Saint Andrew' in Amalfi, Italy, is part of a centuries-old celebration honoring Saint Andrew, the city's patron saint. According to local tradition, on 27 June 1544, as the fleet of the Ottoman corsair Khayr al-Din Barbarossa threatened Amalfi, the townspeople prayed for Saint Andrew's intercession. A violent storm scattered the enemy ships, and the city was spared. Each year on 27 June, bearers carry the silver reliquary bust of Saint Andrew at a run up the 62 steps of Amalfi Cathedral, commemorating this traditional account of the city's deliverance.

Why Liturgy Was Left Out at the Consistory

Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline of Marseille, France, told French daily Le Figaro on June 25 why liturgy was left off the agenda for the June consistory.
Recalling the January consistory, where he served as secretary of one of the French-speaking discussion groups, Aveline said: "At that table, I voted in favor of discussing the liturgy—but I was the only one."
The other French-speaking cardinals in his group came from different countries and did not regard liturgy as a priority.
According to Aveline, a similar pattern emerged in many other discussion groups. As a result, the liturgical question received the fewest votes and was not included among the topics for the June consistory.

Catholic scholar says classical learning can help renew America

ANN ARBOR, Michigan Catholics should be proud of their contributions to the United States, especially for the intellectual tradition inherited from philosophers, theologians, and saints who contributed to the ideas leading to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, author and Hillsdale College Professor Matthew Mehan told EWTN News leading up to the 250th anniversary of the nation.
Mehan is associate dean and professor of government studies at Hillsdale College’s Washington, D.C. campus. He holds a doctorate in literature from the University of Dallas and recently authored
The American Book of Fables, a book for all ages that reflects Mehan’s desire to contribute to national renewal.
The fables are set in the American landscape, framed by the Declaration of Independence, and accompanied by historical documents illustrating the country’s history, complexity, and geographical regions.
In interviews with EWTN News, the author and scholar said the book grew out of his …

Vatican Appeal Court Upholds Conviction of Becciu Accuser: The Vatican Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction of Nicola Giampaolo for slandering Cardinal Angelo Becciu over his role at the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. The ruling confirms the Vatican Tribunal's October 2025 judgment, leaving Giampaolo's three-and-a-half-year prison sentence and damages in place. The case stemmed from Giampaolo's claims on the Italian TV program Report that money had been requested to advance the beatification cause of former Italian Prime Minister and personal friend of Pope Paul VI, Aldo Moro. The Vatican has now definitively ruled those allegations were criminal slander.

Letter to the Romans 6,3-4.8-11.
Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.
If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.
We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him.
As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God.
Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as (being) dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.

Cardinal Grech: "New Stage in Reception of Vatican II"

The implementation phase of the synod “will mark a new stage in the reception of the Second Vatican Council,” Cardinal Mario Grech warned the consistory on Saturday. He is a 🌈 Cardinal and the Vatican's Secretary of the Synod.
His lengthy speech, which was around 3,000 words long, was published on Zenit.org. Much of it was repetitive, focusing on buzzwords such as listening, discernment, communion, participation, the 'exchange of gifts', implementation, and 'conversation in the Spirit'.
In terms of density of ideas, the speech was low.
The essential message was
• the Synod is not over.
• implementation is the real work.
• synodality should become part of the Church's ordinary life.
• this is the next stage of Vatican II.
Two key sentences were:
"The discernment of the signs of the times, ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, and the commitment to justice and peace become measures of the Church's diakonia."
"In this way, the implementation phase becomes a new stage in the reception …Dabalata

"Dazzled" by God!
Liturgy of Monday, June 29, 2026, Solemnity of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul
Dear brothers and sisters, celebrating the Solemnity of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul means celebrating, in some way, what made them great: their faith in Jesus!
Peter will be the first ever to profess faith in Jesus: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God," the fisherman from Capernaum in Caesarea Philippi will exclaim (Mt 16:13-19), after being "dazzled," in the words of Pope Francis, "by the omnipotent weakness of his divine love, by the irresistible force of his gentleness, and by the irreversible promise of his mercy."
Paul, for his part, after being "dazzled" by the splendor of the Risen One on the road to Damascus, wrote to the faithful of the communities he founded during his apostolic journeys: "For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain..." (Phil 1:21). This life in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Gal 2:20)

Die To Yourself, Discover Lasting Joy
The Gospel reading emphasizes the rewards of living a life of charity and love, particularly for those baptized into Christ. This life of charity is exemplified in marriage, where spouses are called to love each other selflessly, mirroring Christ’s love for the Church. By dying to themselves and living for their spouse, married couples participate in the divine mystery of Christ’s love for the Church.
True fulfillment comes from losing our lives by giving ourselves to God and others, especially our spouses. This requires dying to our selfishness and allowing Christ to live through us, loving others as He loves us. By doing so, we prepare ourselves for eternal life in heaven, where love reigns supreme.
