He has been Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Košice since 2016. Košice has nearly 500 priests and 700k Catholics. A psychologist with a doctorate in social psychology, Archbishop Forgáč considers psychology to be a source of truth. In a 2024 interview, he recalled meeting a homosexual man whom several priests had refused to receive. Deeply moved by his “suffering”, Forgáč listened to the homosexual and gave him a blessing. The Spanish surgeon behind the technique used in the Pope's lung operation says he may not need further cancer treatment. Spanish thoracic surgeon Diego González Rivas, whose team developed the minimally invasive technique used to operate on Pope Leo XIV, says the Pontiff is recovering well. González Rivas developed the single-incision uniportal VATS technique in 2010 and trained surgeons at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The Pope's operation was performed Tuesday by a team led by Professor Stefano Margaritora, head of thoracic surgery at Gemelli. Surgeons removed the lower lobe of his right lung after detecting an early-stage adenocarcinoma. González Rivas contacted the medical team Wednesday morning and learned that the Pope was already in a regular hospital ward and pain-free.
